Robiquetia Cerina – Yellow Form

Robiquetia cerina is a fascinating, medium-sized epiphytic orchid species endemic to the Philippines, widely recognized by its distinctive, densely clustered blooms. Known popularly as the Waxy Flowered Robiquetia or the Pineapple Orchid, its tightly grouped inflorescences heavily resemble a small pineapple or a miniature bunch of grapes.

Key Characteristics

• Growth Habit: An epiphytic subshrub that grows vertically on tree trunks in wet tropical biomes. It features thick, alternate, leathery leaves arranged in two ranks along a compressed stem.
• Flowers: The individual flowers are small, measuring only about 0.8 cm (¼”) and do not open fully. They form a pendulous, cone-shaped cluster about 6 to 10 cm long. No distinct scent has been detected from the blooms.

In the wild, this orchid thrives across multiple Philippine islands including Luzon, Mindanao and Negros. It populates forests at elevations ranging from 350 meters up to higher mountain regions, allowing it to adapt across a broad thermal range.
