Key Usage Information for Orchid Growers

• Sensitivity Test Required: The manufacturer explicitly recommends carrying out a sensitivity test on a few plants before large-scale application, particularly for sensitive flowering plants like roses. This is vital for orchids, as some species may react poorly to organophosphates.
• Compatibility: It is compatible with most commonly used pesticides and liquid fertilizers, but a physical compatibility test (jar test) is advised before mixing large quantities.
• Re-entry Period: Do not enter treated areas for at least 24 hours after spraying without protective clothing.
• Application Timing: Apply at the first sign of infestation or during peak egg-hatch periods. Repeat at 7–14 day intervals if necessary (maximum 3 applications per season).

Orchid-Specific Advice

Because Ranger® 480EC contains Chlorpyrifos, it is very effective against stubborn orchid pests like thrips and mealybugs. However, because it is non-systemic, you must ensure the spray reaches the “hiding spots” of the orchids (axils, under leaves, and inside flower sheaths).

Warning: Avoid spraying directly onto open orchid blooms unless you have tested it first, as it may cause petal spotting or premature wilting.
