Orchidoholics at the Kenya Orchid Show 2025
If you were anywhere near Sarit Expo Centre between October 16th and 19th, chances are you caught a whiff of floral magic and maybe a glimpse of Rajul Patel having a full-blown conversation with her orchids. This year’s Kenya Orchid Society Show, themed “Orchids Through Legends,” was exactly that, a colorful, fragrant celebration of everything we love about these elegant plants. The Loita Hall, turned into a paradise for plant lovers and yes, Orchidoholics was right there soaking it all in (and maybe buying one too many orchids… no regrets).
The event brought together orchid enthusiasts, collectors, growers and nature lovers from across Kenya and beyond for four days of color, creativity and conservation.
1. Celebrating the Legends of Orchids
The 2025 show’s theme, “Through Legends,” celebrated not just the breathtaking beauty of orchids but also the stories, cultures and people who have contributed to their preservation and popularity. The event featured exquisite orchid displays, children’s art competitions, live demonstrations and expert talks all highlighting how orchids continue to inspire and educate across generations.
Visitors were treated to a stunning array of orchid species and hybrids, each display showcasing the growers’ passion and horticultural excellence. Orchidoholics’ booth drew plenty of attention for its vibrant plant arrangements, educational materials and interactive learning sessions that encouraged attendees to dive deeper into orchid care and propagation.
2. Behind the Scenes: Rajul Patel and the Planning Team
One of Orchidoholics’ own, Rajul Patel, played a key role as part of the event’s planning committee, helping to shape the layout, coordinate with exhibitors and ensure that every detail, from display lighting to judging categories ran seamlessly. Rajul’s commitment to advancing orchid culture in Kenya shone through, both in the planning process and throughout the event days, where she could be found guiding visitors and connecting with fellow enthusiasts.
“Being part of this year’s committee was an honour,” Rajul shared. “We wanted to create an experience that not only showcased Kenya’s diverse orchid community but also inspired the next generation of growers. Seeing the excitement in people’s faces made all the effort worthwhile.”
3. Growing Kenya’s Orchid Community
The show served as a powerful reminder of the growing passion for orchids in Kenya. With more local nurseries emerging, increased access to educational resources and greater community collaboration, the orchid movement in East Africa continues to thrive.
As Orchidoholics, we believe in nurturing that growth through knowledge-sharing, conservation awareness and connecting plant lovers through events like this. Every conversation, every shared photo, and every plant sold at the show contributes to a more sustainable and vibrant orchid culture in our region.
